  Polycystic Kidney Disease                 (PKD)

 

What is PKD?

 

PKD or Polycystic Kidney Disease is genetic disease caused by gen mutation PKD1.

PKD is disease of multiple cysts present in both kidneys.

~

The cysts filled with liquid could be numerous and could cause overloaded size of kidneys.

~

This disease can affect not only kidneys but also liver and in very rare cases also heart and brains.

~

PKD is more often appeared at Persians, Exotics and British cats.

~

 

What are signs of PKD?

 

Like disease HCM the genetic disease PKD is also slowly progressing disease.

~

The signs of this disease usually show up in the latter age of the cat.

~

The most frequent symptoms are :

~

un-well feeling

~

poor appetite

~

grate thirst

~

increased amount of eliminated urine,

decreasing the weight and finally

the death because of kidney failure.
